In one hand, six billions dollars spent to build stadiums and all the rest. On the other hand, at least 30 per cent of the population who lives with less than 2 dollar a day. According to World Bank, that’s the real dilemma of SA World cup, much more than previewing the team to win the cup. There’s no doubt that a large part of people is struggling to live in an honourable way: that’s why many voices in the country are saying the Championship won’t give any benefit for them. Much more, they underline how things are already getting worse: movements like the Landless People’s Movement (Gauteng), the Rural Network (KwaZulu-Natal) or Abahlali shout against expropiations, violence, threats.
